Which ratio would you choose for a 300R?

We'll be hanging a 300R on the back of the Stroker soon and we're curious to know what you would choose. The 1.6 or the 1.75 gear set and why? We're running 16" of setback. Boat is used for almost exclusively fishing purposes, but we go to local boat runs when we can.

From what I've heard if your main interest is fishing stick with the 1.75.
Tim Powell has done some testing with both on high performance boats ----see what he has to say.

Only difference between either will be in prop selection. 1.6 will get you into the 28-30 pitch props. 1.75 will need more pitch, which are not always as easy to find.

I ended up calling Tim after posting this and we're going with the 1.75. We've got a worked 32 hill cleaver we'll run until we can get some more props on the way. We'll probably end up doing most of our running with a 30-32 and and a 34 to play with.

With the old sports master it was wise to have a spare.

I think it is wise on the new ones too if you can afford it.

    Knock on wood.
I've got 500 hours on this one with nothing but regular maintenance.
The old sports master was prone to blow a shift shaft seal every time you made a LONG- HARD run.

I ordered mine with a 1.60. I am running a 28 Promax. Runs good on my 21XD COMP. Props are easier to find.

^^^^ Exactly why they made the 1.60 ratio (wasn't originally going to be offered that way).
