It doesn’t do anything for me except work. I have nothing against 4 strokes either. But with the cost of a new one, unless mine ends up in half or at the bottom of a lake I’ll just keep running it.

That's something an old woman would say.

Bass guys run them for minutes at 6k with no warmup or cool down.
the upper hp motors are not are the same,,, with the exception of the 150hp motors and they are the same ,, but the SHO and the gray F series have different blocks , ( F series has removable liner sleeves ) the SHO's have some type of coating on the block itself and no sleeves ,,, the bore and stroke is different making for more displacement on the SHO motors ,,,,, and the F Series weighs about a hundred pounds more

I've had a Yamaha for my bass boats for years (about thirty years) with no problems. Bought a Merc (about three years ago) for my pontoon boat and the alternator went out on it on Father's Day of this year. It took over a month to get one in from Mercury. It was the first Mercury I ever purchased. Might be the last.

Friends don't let friends own Mercury's. An old Merc marketing slogan, 98% of Mercury Engines sold are still on the water the other 2% made it back to the dock.

The compressor failing kind of negates zero, zilch, nada

Maybe I should have said after warranty, I guess those yammies never ever need any engine components. I wish I would have bought a yammie a few years back, as much oil as they make I would have been rich by now.

You make a good point, probably could count on one hand and have a couple extra digits to spare.

I find it funny when someone brags about never blowing an engine but they also buy new and only keep it a few years before buying the next new one. EVERYTHING will fail if you keep it long enough.

My Mercury 4-stroke didn't make oil once I got the rings seated in good. Only time will tell if my SHO will get the rings seated good. Once I know I'm past the first 10 hours I'll do it like my Mercury and run it wide open for 30-45 minutes straight. My Mercury made oil until I did that.

I know you turn your rigs fairly regularly. It’s all good

I have a 2011 250 PROXS, 2nd owner with around 620 hours. I've put a ton of money into it during my 11 years of owning it. Upper mounts, compressor, oil pump, gear case rebuild and so forth. I've been saving for a repower and will most likely go with a Suzuki when I do.

Yamaha SHO is the best option on the market right now.

Why do you say that? If you're talking about speed and performance I might agree, but according to the research I've done Suzuki is more reliable hands down.
