    Hot Foot sticking

Sorry not sure what forum to post this in. I have a 2016 Triton 18trx with 2016 Mercury pro xs 2 stroke. My hot foot sticks sticks a lot. I will be going 50mph let off the hot foot to slow down and is stuck and need to manually with the top of my foot release it. Has anyone had this issue and does anyone know how to fix this? Is this something simple like a quick WD-40 solution somewhere on the hot foot or should i be bringing this to a dealer to fix?

Thanks for all responses tried to look online and havent seen anyone posting any issues like this with a solution so here i am!

Check for debris in and around the bottom of the pedal. Shoot some WD-40 or similar lube at the pivot point. Inspect the return spring.

I would never use WD40. It works initially but then dries out and leaves a sticky varnish. Use something like CLP for guns.

That happened to me and the dealership said the cable was bent. They replaced the cable and it no longer sticks.

Stainless Steel pin in aluminum where it pivots....Remove pin, clean and lubricate pin.

Could be the pivot pin corroded or the cable bent. Had both happen on my hot foot at different times.

My 200 opti did the same thing a while back. Kind of scary.. I lubed both ends of the cable with some grease and it is working fine. I suspect I will eventually have to replace the cable.

Has the spring at the foot pedal broken?

I've had a hot foot since 90s (maybe). One time , hot foot started not returning, so I ordered a new replacement spring, old spring and new spring seemed about the same; anyway after putting NEW spring on there > hot foot worked great again.

Did not spray anything on old or new spring or hotfoot parts, same original cable.

Will check the pivot pin first and go from there. Do you personally know how to check the cable and figure out if its bent or not? not much of a boat fixing so not sure where i would even start to see what cable is the correct one to look at.

Mine was sticking at one time, lubricated, the stick went away. When it was sticking I sure was glad for that toe return to pull it back.
