Very true. Wonder if he knew the destruction that he was going to deliver.

Yes but it was a joined effort by thousands of Americans and others. My dad was one of many that were getting ready to hit the main land. He had someone save the front page article about what took place. I still have it if I can remember where I put it I will try to post it. We moved to Pickwick lake 3 years ago this month. So finding it might be a chore! Too bad it had to take place in the first place but it likely saved many Allied forces and at least that many of the Japanese. Strange how things turn out as Japan is one of our most dependable allies now.

According to the book The Manhattan Project, he was the only one on board that really knew what they were flying with. General Wesley Grove

They should have let the plane necessary evil drop it instead of the Enola Gay.

If I remember my history right. We warned Japan that we had a devastating weapon and to surrender or we will be forced to use it.

Yes, and we dropped leaflets over the target cities warning the populous. Honestly, if someone did that to our country I would view it as propaganda until proven otherwise as similar stuff has long been a war tactic. SO I am not sure how effective that was.
