What speed does your 2d sonar fade out?

I noticed that my 2d would start fading out about 35-40 mph. Before I really start to dig into this I wanted to find out the normal. I already checked my splitter cable everything is good there. I’m running Humminbirds with the factory in hull transducer.

If there is a good chop I'd say around 60-65....this is for Garmin GT8 and GT15...

Depends on how the transducer was installed at the factory and by that I mean the spot in the hull how the transducer was placed. The further back the transducer is installed towards the transom the better it will show a return at speed. I’ve seen boats lose 2d at 30mph and some hold up to 70mph wide open full trim.

I’m running Garmins and have the transducer mounted under the jackplate. I lose 2D and downscan in the 30’s. I have found that switching over to the flasher setting it keeps up even in the 70’s. I created a combo with half map and half flasher when I’m running and then just hit the button yo go back to whatever sonar I want. See if that may work on your units.

Thanks I believe I’ve seen it good at 50 mph so I was thinking maybe my splitter cable came loose I’ll double check the transducer location. I only have 6 hours on it but maybe it came loose.

If I install a through hull transducer I'll open up the bilge area and then use duct seal to mount the puck then take a test run. With the duct seal I can then move the puck to different locations on the water. Usually a couple of tweaks will get it reading correctly at or near top speed. You can then either epoxy it in or just leave the duct seal - I've had great luck using that over the years and a lot easier to remove.

Good call I forgot about duct seal I used it to mount my kayak transducer.

I put a new one right where Phonix did. I have yet to have it go out. I've run 68-69 mph with no issues.

On my 619 there is a small area where you install ducers.....i have the original Lowrance, GT8 and GT15 ducers on that one spot....all works well.....like mentioned, if you move or add another, be careful on not blocking the plug hole.

It’s possible that there was more chop on the water last time I was out I’m going to keep a eye on it if the problem continues I’ll try a new transducer.
