    I use a 7.1:1 or a 7.5:1

Will often have a fish swim towards me after being hooked and I feel like it helps me a bit in catching up to them.

    Yes. I don't even own a reel that's less than 7:1 anymore.

I use a 7.1 for 1.5 and 2.5 sized ones. I'll drop down to a 6.3 for the bigger ones.

I stick with 6.3 for just about everything. Never been a fan of higher speed reels and they seem to separate themselves too far from the general purpose pack for what I do.

Depends on time of year and situation. I'll fish them from a 5:3:1 to 7:3:1.

I honestly believe I get more bites on a 5:3 but I land more fish on the 6:4 I use.

Nope, cranking big square bills with a 7:1 ratio all day wears you out, it's a 5:1 ratio for me.

Same here. It’s a lot easier and more functional to keep all the reels the same. How hard is it just to slow down? So we really need a reel to tell us to slow down?

8.1 here. Caught thousands of fish that way.

Yes hard on the wrist and arm, much more torque with less effort with a lower ratio reel. Think about a vehicle, it's like trying to go 10 MPH in 1st gear vs 10 MPH in 3rd gear.

I understand the concept. Are you throwing a 12" squarebill?
