    Repower trade in?

Thinking maybe at some point moving on from an Optimax to a four strokes ProXS. Do dealers take trade in’s for motors? Local dealer I contacted does not, so wasn’t sure where to look.

If it's clean, better to sell it via private party. Lots of people looking for a good clean used motor

Mine did when I traded up from an Optimax to a ProXs but the other local dealers do not. It just depends on their business model.

Not a lot value in the 2 stroke Mercs. There are a ton of them on the market ATM.

I've been looking for a decent 200-250HP for my pontoon and can't find anything. Called a few dealerships and they say the used market is almost nonexistent now? I have seen a few listed but they are gone in a blink of an eye!

None around here, that’s obviously location specific.

My dealer had me pay full price for a new 250 SHO last year. He took the old motor on consignment. It took 2 months to sell and he got $7500 for a 1998 Merc 225 EFI with 250 hrs. He took 15% for the consignment. I was quite pleased. This dealer specializes in re-powers and older motor parts so his customer base is ideal for moving consignment motors.

Really? That's the first I have heard that, certainly not the case here.

There are three or four in the for sale section on this site. Several dozen on facebook ATM. Lots of people are upgrading to the 4 stroke. The local dealer around here had 3 for sale.

PM and for a small finders fee I will locate one. Here is just one example.

Might be a lot of the available, but they still have a ton of value. If they run good, it’s a minimum of $7,000 depending on the year.

Some state you only pay the difference in sales tax on the price of the new versus trade in which can be a big savings

Thats about what I am seeing anywhere from 5K - 10K depending on the year. I have seen some 17-18 model years with warranty going for 10K or less. This is just a quick list I made. All within 250 miles of me.

Considering Mercury Optimax 250 was only around 15k at its highest price. Still drawing reasonable used values at 7-10k

Some guys are dreaming on used pricing however.

You must not have looked to hard. Two were regular 225 Optimax, one was an XB, One was a Sport, and one was a four stroke. Only the XB was 200 miles from you. The rest ranged from 450 to 2200 hundred miles away.
