    RT188 with a 115 Yamaha SHO

I just brought home a 2018 RT188 with a 115 Yamaha SHO with the 4” set back. The motor has an aluminum prop, anyone else out there with this combo that can recommend a good stainless prop?

Congrats on finding a replacement quickly. I have not ran a Yamaha in years, but I ran them all through the 80's and 90's. I always ran Mercury props with a hub kit, or going back into "the days" you had to get a hub pressed in. Looks like it has close gearing to the standard Merc 2/1 gear case.

I would go with a Powertech PTR3 or NRS3 but not sure on the pitch, don't know the gear ratio or operating RPM of that motor.

It is a 2.15 gear case ratio with a full throttle operating range of 5300-6300 rpm.

    20-21" pitch then.

Another boat? Did you sell your other 188?

I purchased a second RT188 (2018) last fall so that I could take my 2014 to Ontario and just keep it there year around and avoid the towing. Unfortunately a tree fell on it in April and totaled it. So the “new” boat with the Yammie is its replacement. Two 2018 RT188’s, both black, same trolling motors but different outboards. Should head to Ontario around the 17th.

My only recommendation is to not park it under a tree. Good luck with your new ride. Post some pics of that bad boy.

Panama has this same setup and after trying several props he decided on a Laser II 20 inch pitch.

I try to drive as if my 16 year old Grandson is following me

Laser II....20 inch pitch stainless is the prop you want for your setup. It is the best prop out there I believe for the 188 and the 115 Yamaha. It will turn at or very close to max RPM - and the Yamaha likes to run high RPM.. they generate good power up near the top end.

I came back to edit this to say that I have never run a four blade prop.... but I cannot find anything wrong with the Laser II 20P so I quit experimenting. It works great, so why keep testing.

Once I put on a 19" Spitfire X7, the Laser 20 has been on the shelf. The difference in handling and stern lift is astounding.

Sorry it slipped my mind that a tree fell on your boat. My bad. Glad you found a replacement.

I’m running a LaserII on my Mercury 4S powered RT188 and the 19 Spitfire is the only other prop I see with consistent praise on the rig.

I have not tried one because the Laser II does fine.

A few pics of the new rig. There are Helix 9’s for the console and up front and I have a LVS34 to install with a 9” head unit. I also have a HB360 from the crushed boat that need to figure which boat to use on. It was with a 9” Helix so it should be an easy add on to the boat bound for Ontario. Oh yea, I retired on Friday

And a fish photo from last night’s club tournament fishing in the other black RT188.

Very nice boat you got there. Gonna be a blast to fish out of with all your electronics also. Enjoy.
