    Batteries for Ultrex

If I run continuously my 24/80 Ultrex on high trolling I can get about three hours run time before I drain my lead acid batteries. Was wondering how much added run time I might expect if I switched to lithiums???

    From the Minnkota website:

    Power Output

Lithium Batteries maintain higher voltages for longer. Motors engineered to make the most of flooded lead acid batteries can be damaged by the higher power output. To prevent this damage when using Lithium batteries you should not run your motor at its highest speeds, staying at 85%/Speed 8.5 or lower.

Thanks wayne sounds like I can get longer run time but cannot run it on 10. A second question is do they make different pitch props?

Probably won’t be as much more as you might think. A lithium ion will give you fairly close to its rated AH, so if you have a a 100AH battery set, if you draw 25A, which is mid-range, you’ll get about 4 hours.

What size lead acid batteries do you have? Two group 29 or 31s should last you longer than that.

I was thinking about two 100 amp hr so was thinking could run for at least six hours

100AH could give you 6 hours if you keep average current below 17A. That’s a fairly low setting.

Keep in mind, equal AH lead batteries are giving less and less voltage as they drain. At about 50% remaining you will be under 12 volts, you will have to run your motor on a higher setting! That shortens the length of time you can run. You will get considerably more runtime with Lithium, but with a larger price. A 36 volt motor will also last longer(again at a higher price as you will have 3 batteries). You have to consider price in the equation for what performance you want. JMO Bob

I run 2 ionic 100ah batteries to my ultrex. Ran them 6 hours between 4 and 7. At the end of my short day I still had 75%

To avoid confusing the issue, OP is talking about running the motor continuously.

If you have to run a 24v in high that much I would put a 36v motor and three 100ah lithium

I have 3 100 AH lithium and this perhaps answers my question as to why my Ultrex Trips out after running on 10 after a couple minutes. Next time I'll see what it does on 8.

Not a prayer. Even in ideal circumstances it would take two sets of batteries to run the motor for 8 hours.

I fish 8 hours or more on 2 27s and have never had a problem.

No way in the world you run a trolling motor continuously for 8 hours on two group 27 batteries. You’d be lucky to get two hours. If lead acid batteries had anything close to that capacity there would be no one using lithium batteries.

^^^^^^^^^ dont argue with cat fan 0n this subject, you will lose every time.
Many posting their claims are not turning that motor on continuous all day all long at 8 to 10 as this would require about 200 AH!
36 volts would not be of any help unless you ran a lower setting due to the increased thrust availble
    Thank You Leon Pugh
