Best kept secret in the industry..... not only an excellent riding hull, but a great value to the consumer.

They ride well, but to me all they do is plow water. I'll take a Phoenix or Skeeter any day over a Ranger in rough water.

Well I say ranger 520 or 521 because out of all the boats I have been in those are the most comfortable riding. I don't own one nor have I ever.

None of those listed in the article are truly a "deep-v" hull.

I did a lot of reading not only here but around the web before I bought one. I had a certain year range and value in mind when I bought so a new Cat or Phoenix was not an option for me. Champion seems to be the most accredited boat for rough water so I think that would be hard to argue against. There wasn’t going to be one to fit my needs though so I kept digging for options. I was going to be content with a 521 or a 21I. They may not be the “best” but they rank pretty darn well imo. I’ve always wanted a Skeeter and luckily I ended up with one. I would say it’s a very good rough water boat. Probably not the best but for someone who is an amateur captain yet I’m always dry and feel very safe in it and I’m on big water a lot.

I’ve owned rangers, skeeters, nitros, hydra-sports and I can tell you when it got rough at Rayburn everyone got behind a champion. At least the smart ones did.

Allison XB21 will be one of them. I don’t think a bunch of them are made any longer like the 221, or any other champion. The Ranger 522D was a big un but it’s not made either. The big 21XD Bullet surprises me as well.

A bad driver can make any of them rough.

My Legend rides way better than any Ranger I’ve been in. Owned a 519. Fished out of a lot of boats. I’ve kept it longer than any boat in 50 years

16’8 Champion can maneuver the swells better than any barge currently being built.
