2010 Mercury Pro XS High Voltage

I have a 2010 Mercury Pro XS 2 Stroke. Serial number 2B017938 and I’m running smart craft gauges and my battery is a 2 year old 31 series AGM ProGuide battery. Battery has been tested and is fine. I went out tonight and my initial 15 minute run no issues. On my way back, I kept throwing a high voltage alarm. I was monitoring as I was WOT and it would randomly shoot up to 17 Volts. I just replaced alternator less than a month ago. My first check tomorrow will be the fusible link. How to I tell if it’s blown? What else should I look at? Thanks.

Will not be fusible link because you would get NO OUTPUT.

A poor connection on a battery cable, battery switch, or a bad battery switch can cause this... but most commonly it's the alternator.

    OEM or Aftermarket alternator?

All connections are direct and clean and checked. It’s an aftermarket alternator. But I was having this issue with my OEM which what initially led me to change it out.

Results still indicate alternator. Many of the aftermarkets just don't hold up to spinning at 16K RPM's.

If you still have the OEM alternator look into having it rebuilt.
