Has anyone repowered a 400 series with a Yamaha F150 instead of a SHO

I'm working on repowering my 482V and figuring out which engine I'll get.

Has anyone repowered with an inline 4 cylinder yamaha instead of going with the SHO? I'm not looking to be the fastest boat out there so really not that interested in the additional cost of the SHO. Wondering about the performance. The F150 and F175 are both 480-487 lbs so the additional weight might be an issue. May be a good reason to switch to lithium.

    Thanks for replies.

    I had a 482 and the 150hp was grossly underpowered. did 175.

You had the Yamaha I4 F150 and it was underpowered? Did you then go from the F150 to the F175? Couldn't have been much difference in the holeshot and top end by adding 25hp.

Cant answer your 150 vs 175 question but Yamaha's website lists the inline 4 cylinder VF150-VF175hp (SHO) at 480lbs. The lightest i4 150 is 509lbs.

A 1990's Merc 175 dry weight was around 395lbs. I'd try my best to limit any extra weight, even if it cost a little more.
