active imaging HD thoughts?

A friend of mine recently got the HDS pro 12 with active imaging Hd transducer installed. I found it had to get fish to pop on the screen and to show hard spots at further than 45ft on side imaging without blowing the screen out by turning the contrast up. Yes the transducer is mounted perfectly and level and all. just seeing if anyone else has had this problem?

Side Imaging range clarity is dependent on frequency used. If using very high frequency, you will get great images close to the boat. Using the lowest frequency gives you images far from the boat. Adjust your frequency according to the range you are viewing.
