    Rain Gear

I'm needing new rain gear for the boat. Looking for some input on what's good out there and what's not. Don't want to spend a fortune but don't want to buy stuff that'll will perform marginally and last only a few years either. Let's budget at around $500. Thoughts?

I bought a set of Gill tournament rain gear and have been very happy with it. Pricing is good and the quality is there for sure! Gill has been around a long time in the sailing world and has just entered the fishing market in the last 5 years or so...good stuff!

Keep an eye out on the Miscellaneous board. I picked up a full Stormr set (bibs and jacket) new with tags and in the plastic for like half of retail a couple years ago and then got a set of light Aftco bibs for I think under $100 last year. Both have been great. There's a set of XL Gill bibs on there right now, new for $150.

Simms Challenger are pretty good. In a downpour the only place I get wet is the sleeves around the wrist and a little around my neck. I got mine on sale for less than $300 a year or so ago. They are the non insulated.

Just wore a 2023 Simms Challenger suit in a heavy, heavy downpour for several hours and stayed bone dry. I really like the fit of the 2023 suits a a lot. They made a few changes to them which make them even better. You can often find them on sale on Simms site. Free shipping and returns.

Decent deal for the older version (got a set for under 300), not great at full price compared to the competition imo. Neoprene sleeves are important for not letting rain soak up your arm when fishing. I’m likely looking for new raingear for next year, had guidewear that worked great but the pockets starting falling off. Still keeps me dryer than the challenger gear.

Simms challenger if you want to save $. The only suit I have ever had that has kept me 100% bone dry is the Pro Dry but that is $$$.

Any thoughts on the CX series? Happy medium between the Challenger and the Pro Dry??

Got a 100mph suit for the colder days, and a columbia rain suit for the majority of days in Texas. Not as worried about getting a little wet in the warmer months. But that columbia suit does keep me dry. That rain suit was a a little over $100

I haven't tried it but did get it in my hands - its seems more like the challenger than the ProDry.

I bought a Pro Qualifier set on here many years ago..has held up good but I don't fish in the rain a whole lot. Mostly wear the bibs when the dew falls.
