    TR196 setup

I have a TR196 SC with Mercury 200 EFI 3.0 I am currently spinning a 26 Fury 3 blade. Tournament load, power poles, 2 guys and 3/4 fuel, I am hitting the rev limiter at 5400 and only getting 62mph. I feel like that boat should go faster than that. Do I need to try out a 3 blade 27? Thanks

Are those numbers from a smartcraft device?

My 2007 196DC (200 Opti, ppoles, 8” hydraulic jackplate) ran 68+ on gps with both my 26P tempest plus (68.8) and my 25P fury 4 (68.4) (full tank, full livewells, 2 guys, tackle) when I was prop testing a couple years ago. I have the RPM numbers somewhere around here….but never hit the limiter.

I do not know the gear ratio or RPM limit of your EFI…..would need those to compute prop slip and theoretical top speed…..

Don't think there is a rev limiter on that motor... Most of those 3 liter EFI's can spin up to around 6k

Are your RPM numbers from an analog gauge…..they are notoriously inaccurate.

That doesn't sound right at all, those motors can rev to 5700-5800 RPM. Friend of mine had one with a 200 Optimax, Jack plate, power poles and a 25" pitch Fury and it would run 70-71 mph.

Those numbers are from analog gauges. What prop to pad are you guys running? Maybe I need to lower the motor? Would the engine beep at me if I was hitting the rev limiter?

I have a hydraulic plate…..my ptp varies based on conditions. A good starting point is 3” ptp…..then adjust in 1/4” increments as required.

I believe Engine overspeed warning us a continuous horn. Not sure if EFI motors have guardian system: https://www.perfprotech.com/blog/marine-outboard-motors/mercury-marine-smartcraft-and-guardian-system-warning-horn-alarms

Some things to check before prop changes or setup changes:
    -throttle adjustment (hotfoot adjustment)
    -cylinder compression
    -spark plug condition
    -prop condition
    -gear oil condition
    -fuel filter condition
    -ignition system (all plugs firing)

Prop to pad came out to be 2.375. Motor needs to go down closer to 3?

I have an 08 with 200 standard Optimax. 8” hydraulic plate. Turning a 27 A45 Tempest 5,500-5,600 RPM (rev limit 5750) and running 71-74 MPH depending on load.
