Is there eelgrass in Kentucky Lake yet?

With all the eelgrass in Guntersville, has it made its way to Kentucky Lake yet? Just hoping.

Thanks guys I haven’t been to the upper end in a long time. I wonder if it will ever work it’s way through the river to Kentucky Lake?

The sheer amount of current that gets pushed through Kentucky Lake every spring will negate any eelgrass growth far more than the Asian carp or the mystical spraying everyone complains of about.

you really think that is true? Ky lake has that much more current to keep grass from growing?

thats BS or it never would have been full of grass all the way to the Dam in the eighties and again in the late 90s after it grew back before something mysteriously killed it

Yes. It catches water from the entirety of the Tennessee River system and fluctuates far more in the early spring than any other reservoir on the chain.

Multiple consecutive low water years in the early spring is what’s required for the grass to grow and become established. That’s what happened in 2007 or so through 2015 or 16. And we haven’t had that since then.

If you think TVA and these state agencies have the money to spray the entirety of the reservoir to kill all the grass I have a bridge to sell you. It is not and has not ever been financially feasible for them to do so on that large of a scale.

haha yeah the damn lake is 160k acres. It would take Patton 3rd Army to spray all of that lake. Its current and water fluctuation that keeps the grass away. This spring was very stable. Hopefully get another year of that next spring.

People are so hell bent on being convinced KyLake gets sprayed regularly because they feel better being angry at some mystical human destroyers than they are being angry at the weather.

Pretty sure air boats would have been noticed by the hundreds/thousands of people on the lake every day/live around the lake. Guess they went covert at night? I like that conspiracy theory too.

There is a reason why guntersville always has ample amount of grass compared to other TN river lakes. Gville doesn't fluctuate but a 1.5-2 feet all year. Chick drops 6 feet and has up and down years on grass. Pickwick and Kentucky see wild swings in grass because not only to do they fluctuate 5-6 feet from summer to winter pool, they are also the last two lakes in the TN river chain. Any rain east of the lakes has to flow through them which increases their current flows. This is why chick has more grass normally even though it drops 6 feet. It doesn't have to flush all the water through it like Pickwick and Kentucky.

We use helicopters to spray on KY Lake , much faster and more efficient than air boats.

It really is this simple and people just can’t accept that.

The grass has come back in a huge huge way this year on Pickwick. That lake needed it too, hopefully it helps the fish rebound.
