    919 4stroke v8 pro xs prop.

I am running a 919 with mercury 225 pro xs . The boat has raptors, with lithium trolling batteries, mega live and 360. Base line running 5750 at 71.5 mph with 24p fury 3. I have ran the atlas jack plate from 8-12 and tried 4 different prop without much change. I tried a 24 tempest at 5850 at 71, a 23 fury 3 at 5830 71.4 , and a 24 fury4 at 5780 at 70.2. Dealer is saying my lithium batteries are cause my slow woes that the boat need more stern weight. I do have all my heavy tackle in the rear port storage box. Is there a better prop option or should I have a prop worked. I am thinking adding cup for bow lift and cutting the barrel of the prop down to reduce stern lift in order to settle the stern. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Following. I have the same boat, lithiums and almost the exact setup that you have with the same prop and similar results. Did you like the Tempest at all? What im running into as well is when you add a tournament partner, livewells full, ice in the box etc.....its a dog out of the hole and the fury doesnt carry a load well at all. Im considering going to a bravo for tournament fishing purposes. When i run the 24 fury by myself and empty wells etc it runs great and gets out of the hole great.

You guys should throw some weight in the back with sand bags or something just to see what happens when you put that weight back in the back.

I am running the same setup except power poles and have about the same results.
I have added a 50lb bag of ballast to the back, but could the results were about the same.

I am currently running a 24 temptest, does give more bow lift. Also have a 23 fury and a 24 fury.
Will be selling the 24 fury soon. Have a 23 tempest but need to have it worked before I run it.

I have about come to realize that about the best mine will run. It will run 73 in the winter months, but normally 71 during the summer.

Try a 23 tempest. It’s a 22 with added cup so it will lift the bow more. Fury doesn’t have a big enough blade to do a lot of lifting

Let me know when you get ready to sell that 24 fury. I may be interested. Thanks!

That's about were I was before lithiums. 5600-5800 68-71. Fastest I hit was 74. I replaced 2 G31 with 60 AH Lithiums, G31 AGM, and my hole shot did improve but it was pretty good before.

I do notice that it runs better and faster with a full tank and live wells, after lithiums.

I add 75lbs to the battery compartment only result was lower plane with both props I tried. I guess 71 -72 mph is all she has got. Kind of sad. My old 819 with a 200 optimax would run that with 5 lead acid batteries and the same tackle load.

Yea I’m pretty disappointed in mine if I’m honest. I came out of a 294 Stratos and 200 optimax and that boat would outrun my 919/225 4 stroke on the top end.

The only way I could get to 6200 is drop to a 21 pitch prop. Which is complete bs. These four strokes just don't have the top end.

The lower pitch doesn’t have anything to do with Hp. The lower unit went from like 15%+ slip to like 6 so it takes less pitch

No it does not, but a 200 optimax on the same hull will run with a 225 four stroke is my point. I have tried 4 different props multiple jack plate settings and moving and adding weight. No matter what I try this is a 71-72 mph boat at 5750 -5850 rpms. Even my dealer said " it should run 74-76 most of the time. I bought this boat be cause it was suppose to the hot rod of the line other than the 721. There is no way I should need less than a 23 p prop to achieve the 6000 plus rpms. As far slip goes I had my old optimax down to 7-8 percent and it would turn a 25 fury up to the limiter 5750. I feel this new motors just don't have the top end they should.

Maybe I missed it but has your dealer confirmed you are getting 100% linear throttle on the computer? That is a common issue on these new motors/

The sho runs so different on these. My 919 w/225 sho has run 77 many times. Usually 74-75 with 2 people. Difference is it runs really high, and will run to 6150 rpms. Lowes weight on the back, 4 heavy agms, spare prop, and 8' blades.

Yes had throttle checked at 2 different dealers. I guess I just got a weak 225.

I tend to agree with you, you shouldn't need anything under a 23 fury or 24 tempest.
Propping has been an issue since the 4 strokes came out. Seems like "decent" is the best most people can get them.
I'm not sure if it's the lower unit, the torque curve, ecu programming, or a combo of all.

If I were in your shoes I'd probably try to find a 21 or 22 tempest to borrow to see if the motor will actually reach 6200.

If ordered another 919, I would be really tempted to get a sho because of this issue with the mercury and proping. I can turn a 24 fury fine and get better GPH with a 24, but cannot get above 5800 rpm in the winter and struggles in the summer with tournament load. The 23 fury runs runs the best for rpm but seems it needs more driver input. Also still getting smoke at start up at least 2 times every trip, even when trim up. Oil level is about in the middle.

Other than that, I love the mercury 4S
