I have been helping a friend out to get his old Champion 190 or 191? It is the 19 foot wide body single console. I’m helping him get it back in shape. Started out with the motor by replacing all of the hoses filters, rebuilding the fuel pump, plugs, coil wires, and having the ECU repaired by Simon as well. The motor runs great now! His tilt tube was worn and motor mounts were shot out. Recently replaced it with bobs solid mounts and replaced the tilt tube. We also removed his old 6” jackplate and replaced it with a TH 10” and added a bobs transom plate. Resealed his transom cap and replaced a few live well hoses and took care or the live well overflow leak. Fitting was cracked and the boat would take on 3-5 gallons of water during each trip. Now we have been working on the jackplate height. I originally set it to 3.75” bellow the pad, but we had to go down from there several times. The boat seems to like 4.5-4.75” below pad. He has a tempest 25”, a trophy 25” and a Yamaha 25m. The Yamaha 25” is on it now. He has not topped it out yet due to his learning curve. The boat has lots of lift and bow lift now and starts to chine walking around 56-57mph. His boat used to run flat and barely had any lift before and topped out at 60 mph. I have been helping him with the driving and set up. It took me a while to learn how to balance my Allison on pad. I told him it will be a few months before he can get the hang of driving his champion now.
