Is it new engine to you or a new issue?

Prop shaft rotating CCW? Has it ever run the other direction since you got it? Do you know it doesn’t have a counter rotation lower unit?

Had it for years. Was running good then I let it sit for 2 years. Got the transom fixed now and trying to get it back on the water. Replaced the powerpack also

Have you verified the crankshaft is actually going the wrong way or just the prop. 2 strokes can run backwards but it’s normally after low idle/backfire. Actually some old engines used to run backwards for reverse

But how did you start it? The starter motor rotates only in one direction. The bendix will not engage the flywheel if it rotates bassackwards.

I think that from the top of the motor looking down on to it that you will see the flywheel turning clockwise. The linkage and ignition system as well as the starter will not allow the motor to run backwards. Not only that but the water pump would not work correctly and forward gear would be reverse and you would have to shift into reverse to go forward.
Has any work been done to the motor, parts replaced, or anything else before this appeared to have happened?

The only thing replaced was a brand new powerpack. The water pump will not pump water out as well

Bump the starter a few times and check rotation, check you connection to the coils and make sure you didn't cross them up, but the starter only spins one way.

Do you have to take gas out instead of filling up the tank ?
