    Weiss Lake Navigation

Hey, my wife and I are going to Weiss Lake for a week and have never been there. I will probably have to let her drive the boat from the ramp to where we are staying. Not sure she is understanding the map on the boat though. We are staying west of Route 9 on the south side. Is the water level high enough where there shouldn't be any low areas or are there areas that are real shallow to avoid?

    Thanks in advance.

The whole lake is full of standing timber. Make sure to stay in the channel unless you know where you are going.

So you're coming to Alabama to fish Weiss? That lake has more shallow, grit your teeth type water than Wheeler does..where are you staying?

Yeah, that lake is full of hazards. Even if you have a good map that allows for depth shading, it still will not show logs. Even in the channel there can be hazards. Go slow, be careful and you should be fine.

I would teach her to pull the trailer with the tow vehicle, or unhook the trailer and leave it at the ramp while you drive the boat to where you are staying and then go back and get the trailer.
Weiss is very difficult to navigate for newbies.

With a full pool it is not as bad as some would like you to think. Stay in the channel. They put out several new hazard markers last year, so it is better. Stay on the west side of Hwy 9 if you can. It is much better than the east side.
