I have one of the very first 250 SHOs, a 2010. I'm the second owner. I understand it blew at around 160 hours and the powerhead was replaced by Yamaha. The first owner hit something and took out the lower unit at around 200 hours so new lower unit. I purchased the boat with 262 hours on it and now it has just over 300 so I've not used it much. So far so good, I've written a lot about what a shame it is that outboard engines aren't more reliable. I understand they live in a harsher environment than vehicle engines primarily due to the lack of a closed cooling system so they can't really get up to a good operating temp and keep moisture out of the crankcase. True they also cruise at about double the rpms that a vehicle engine does. I'd be happy if we could count on an outboard to last 1/2 the hours of a car or truck engine, but sadly a lot don't come close. I love my SHO and take very good care of it including letting it warm up and cool down but there is always the feeling that the next time I take it out it will go boom:-(
