Based on feedback from a lot of owners and my two friends who have Phoenix’s (819 and 920) I went with one on my build. My last two boats had manual jack plates and I’m looking forward to being able to dial it in.

I did mine for running in bad rough water and to be able lift the engine high when idling shallow. Tuning for optimum performance is just a bonus. I would say yes if you can afford it. Lots of both brands, for me it is a Bobs!

I like having it. Think resale too, many guys vow to never own a boat without. Nothing wrong with Atlas. Think Boob's is quite a bit more?

Unless you are only fishing small bodies of water, YES! A hydraulic jack plate allows you to 'dial-in' any number of props but for me its most useful to dump it (lower all the way down) when running rough water or raise it all the way up when getting on plane in shallow water. My current 921 (and prior 721) has an Atlas JP and with the exception of a corroded fuse holder (on the 721...TH Marine sent me an entire wiring harness to replace it... I chose not to install, just replaced fuse holder), I've had no issues. I'd choose the Atlas again based on reliability.

I got mine because i had to in order to get the motor low enough to get in my garage. I will get one on every boat i buy in the future, Lord willing, because makes a massive improvement on the handling.

I have Atlas. I did have the relays go bad at about two years. If it wasn’t covered under warranty it would have been about $300 to buy the new relays.

I've got one on my 2014 and at this point it has just become normal. I'm looking at a new bird without and feeling a potential loss. some days I never touch the the thing and I realize it is something that could go wrong;;; other days I've got the thing up to a 20 as I try and get the boat up in ~2.x ft of water. I don't think a perfect answer exists because it is something that can fail and costs. So I'm firmly on the fence.

Go for the hyrdro. Even if you care nothing for maximum performance, the ability to it all the way up in shallow water or drop it down lower for more lift in rough water is 100% worth the cost.

Definitely a must have and agree with others above - Bobs is a much better plate and go with the powder coating. The black on my 5 year old Bobs plate still looks like its brand new.
