    New dobyns jig rod question

Right now i have an old 735c savvy that i like a lot. I use it for many situations. Jig, swim jig, frog, and crig. I was looking at the champion xp rods and was wondering what rod is best for pitching a 3/8 oz jig that is similar to the 735 savvy or better. I dont flip and fish in ohio so a good fish is 4 lbs. no broomstick needed. I would like to hear from the people who use the champion rods. thanks

I use a 684c for that and love It. I like a shorter rod though.

For what you’re asking specifically I really like the 744 “jig rod special”. It does all of those applications well in my opinion. I even use it for swing heads when smallmouth fishing. One of my favorites in the lineup.

My bad, I didn’t see the frog/c-rig part. No I don’t use the 684c for that. I use It for 3/8 jigs though.

Honestly I have found myself picking up my XP 744c more than my HP 745s lately

I have an Xtasy 754 and wouldn't throw frogs on it (never mind the length). It's categorized as a Heavy and has a lot of backbone, but IMO it trends toward a MH/Heavy rather than being a true Heavy. (The 755 is listed as a MAG Heavy, btw).

I've thrown 3/8oz jigs on the 754, as well as the other techniques mentioned (that aren't frogs). But it doesn't strike me as a true heavy jig rod (I use a USDM Destroyer FMJ for that, and it feels like it has more power than the 754).

I just picked up a 735 and handles a 3/8 jig perfect. I own a 744 in the champion series but tip is a little too soft for bottom contact lures also IMO.

I agree the 735 is a little faster and I like that for jigs. 744 is still a great jig rod I've had several. One of my favorite jig rods for 3/8 pitching to targets is the extreme 705c.
