room for group 31 starting battery in RT188

I installed a Garmin 126 with livescope and am running it off the starting battery with a direct feed to the front of the boat. It is holding up ok but was thinking of changing to a group 31 AGM battery. Has anyone tried this as it looks like there may not be enough room for the extra inch of wide of the 31 versus the 27 size that is in it. Also will the factory charger handle an AGM battery.

It would not fit in mine, all I could get was 3 27’s but from what I hear, the battery space is wider on some of the RT188’s.

I try to drive as if my 16 year old Grandson is following me

I have 2016 RT188 and was able to fit a 31 with a different tray, for the starting and electronics. the other 2 are in there factory/dealer installed trays with 27's.

I had a 2015 188 and it fit. I cut the side lip out of the tray.

Two 31 AGM's and a 27 AGM in mine. I had to take the factory trays out and cut the lip off so they are flat. I strapped all three in but they are in so tight I doubt they would move anyway.

My 2015 RT 178 has two 31agm's and a 27 agm in there. Its tight but I went with the Bass Cat trays that screw in from the bottom of the tray. They are expensive but the only way I could get them to fit.
