Right. As an author of a web site, Googles massive computers scans your content of what you are talking about and then fills in corresponding ads to fit the content. The author gets paid every time someone clicks on an ad.
In 2007 I started my web site with google AdSence and my content was going to be hunting, fishing and sausage making, which was at the same time two guys decided that, using the same program, their content would be other people's content and videos. The Google monthly checks too those guys were so big, Google decided it was cheaper to just buy them out. Yes, that would be YouTube. In my mind at the time, I think I was close, but yet missed out big.

I’m a bit slow, so please explain to me the difference, other than some entity knowing what porn sites you visit.
I know a lot of folks have given up on the idea of personal privacy, but do you really regard that as an equivalency?

Using Duck Duck Go or any VPN service is worse than just surfing the Interweb. Your browsing traffic is now directed towards them using their VPN, all of your traffic. Now there is one source to see what you were surfing. Haven't looked at the fine print on what they do with this data but it would be interesting to see.

So you say you have never looked at the fine print, but are declaring using it is "worse"? Great. Anyway, here's the fine print. They don't collect or distribute any personal information.

There is no doubt that we are being monitored. Vast majority of it is for commercial purposes, but why are you afraid of that? It's a little creepy for sure, but I'm in no way afraid of "falling for their tactics". I buy what I want to buy and don't buy what I don't need to. I research the things I want to research before major purchases and can tell the difference between an ad and proper unbiased information.

Filtering information is for sure more important now than ever, certainly do not believe everything you read, hear or see..... in all aspects of your life. Commercial, political and heck yeah, even dock talk!

For those of you that think the government is out to get you, give your head a shake. Unless you are really doing something wrong, they do not have time for you. How many gun owners are there in the U.S.? You tell me, but it is a ton.... Will they try to have better monitoring systems for purchases? Likely, but if your patterns are normal you won't even pop up on their radar. They only have time to monitor for outliers.

China is a true surveillance state and they certainly infringe on individual rights in a way that we will never see in N.A., but even they can only track the obvious and outliers.

It is scary and freaky in a way, but walking around scared or freaked out about it is only going to affect your happiness, it isn't going away. And the "man" isn't coming to get you unless you give him a reason to.
Being monitored allows for eventual abuse. Because it is benign today does not mean it will be in the future. To quote Ben Franklin:

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

This is true and it happened to me just last week....lol.

I was searching the internet for a grille protector for my tractor. The MFG did not have one so I was searching to see if there were any aftermarket protectors available for my tractor. There were plenty for John Deere and Kubota, but not for my LS tractor.

I belong to a tractor forum. One day after doing my grille protector search I had a member send me a PM telling me how he has the same tractor as mine and has fabricated a grille guard for his tractor and he would send me photos if I would provide him with my cell number.

I thought that was odd because I didn't remember mentioning a grille guard on any thread in the forum. I searched all of my posts and this member's posts and there was NOTHING about a grille guard.

So I messaged the guy and asked if he would provide me with the photos. Of course he was "Johnny on the spot" and replied....."Sure! just give me your cell number." I responded....."Rather than text them to me, why don't you post the photos on the thread where I asked for information on a grille guard. This way other members would be able to have the information too."

The guy responds....."Wow, I was just trying to help. I'm out!" I then replied...."What's the matter Fed Boi..? You don't want to help me now..? You're GLOWING!'

Clowns In America.....they crack me up.

Someone suggested “Data and Goliath” in another thread. What an eye opening book on how much freedom we’ve given up or has been taken.

Yet, the “follow the science” mantra is thrown out the window yet again when the facts are presented on how many laws our law makers have broken gathering our data.

Thanks to the guys that suggested the read here.

Some of you guys should watch Luther: The Fallen Son (on Netflix). On 2nd thought, maybe not. At the core of the premise is the bad guy tapping into every camera and listening device in your home (phone, Alexa, Ring doorbell, laptops, smart TV's etc.) to gather info that they can use to blackmail people.

You are correct!!! Just for note hidden in the proposed bill to ban tik tok are things that make the Patriot act look tame in comparison!

If you are on Facebook, go deep into your FB privacy settings and you'll discover that your bank, mortgage company, and almost any other business you interact with online reports to FB. It is downright disturbing! There is a way around it though, they use your e-mail address as the link so if you are on FB, use a dedicated e-mail for just FB. After I changed that, targeted ads decreased significantly.
So if every one of your devices connected to the internet is spying on you, they know you have multiple email addresses and report that tidbit as well.

I like my privacy, but I’m happy that the government has made your life perfect for you via their listening devices.

If he is not worried about privacy why does he not list his name in his profile? Also why has he changed his location at least 3 times?

Here is the kicker, they just don't scan your phone ....they scan phones near you and target those folks as well. It lumps you together with other Cell phones in close proximity to you on a somewhat consistent basis. My girlfriend was showing me some cream on her phone and for 3 days after.....I was seeing those ads. Alot of companies are now using facial recognition software to spy on you in public places to build your consumer file. All of this is legal. Imagine what the government does too :)

You must be very interesting because the people that listen to me are bored to death.

Well actually I don't think anyone is really listening because no charges have been filed yet?
