    '99 TR21 repower to 250 4 stroke???

I'm gathering info to repower my '99 TR21 with a 250 HP 4 stroke from Suzuki or Yamaha. Currently I have the original 6" Detwiler manual jackplate. Should I upgrade to a hydraulic JP? If so, what setback?

Any info on props for the respective motors is appreciated.

For those that have repowered an older Triton what would you do again or differently?

I'm leaning towards the Suzuki, but not sure how many bass boats my dealer has setup. The Yamaha dealer sells Rangers and caters a bit more to the bass angler. I live in Idaho and have limited selection of dealers.

I've been told they can get me a Suzuki in 4-8 weeks and the Yamaha in 6-7 months.

Any info on fly by wire and gauges would be immensely helpful and appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

I did my 97 tr21 with a 4s 250. And don't regret it one second. I have a 10" atlas jackplate. I think hydraulic jackplate is the way to go. And heard nothing but good things about the suzuki 250ss. I know a guy with a 01 tr21 with a 250ss and he loves it. Will run high 70s. 80 with the right load and water.

Have not played with props yet has a 3 blade 24 fury. With my normal amount of tackle in the boat and 3/4 tank and solo 77.8 so far same load with 2 guys and his tackle 75.6. And at those speeds I don't have to drive the boat at all. It's like it's on a rail.

That’s the same that mine runs and I have zero chine walk also. I was wondering what the difference in our motors would be on this hull. Not much I don’t think. Apparently though if you get a coned lower and raise the motor to almost even with the pad you can turn a 28,29 and run mid 80’s in one of these 21’s.

Thanks for the replies. At the moment I'm leaning towards the Yamaha 250 SHO because the dealer actually sells bass boats and caters to bass anglers. I'm not sure if this is the right forum or questions are okay, but I'd be interested to hear thoughts on the quote I'm getting.

    250 SHO $23,500
Gauges +/- $1,000 depending on what I select
TH Marine Atlas 10" hydraulic JP & gauge $3,200
    New Hot Foot $300
    Labor $1,000
Would I be better off sourcing the JP and Hot Foot myself or are these prices about what I should be paying?

    Thanks in advance

I recently just upgraded from a 250 hpdi to a 250 sho. I have an 03 tr21. Still trying to figure it all out. I was/am running a 26p bravo. But the hole shot isnt great (breaks over at 4200rpm) and rides really stern high at speed. Im thinking of trying a 25p tempest. Anyone have any suggestions? I sent mark an email. Hopin he gets back to me on what he recommends.

Does the flashing help with holeshot more, or you just notice it on top end?

flashing was noticed everywhere! But my SHO was a 200, for about 1.5 hours of running! The difference was stupid!
So in reality though, I had a 250 HPDI....the 332 SHO is better in every way! Last night I cruised at 71!!! CRUISED!

pretty sure mine has 8 pvs holes...I have many filled. At least two solid and two 1/4" hole.....
    I will look tonight.

It is the same set up as I used on my 250hpdi....but my 250 had an OX66 lower unit (1.81 gears).
My prop as it is, still worked fine when my SHO was a stock 200! ...FOR 1.5 HOURs! lol

Would like to know what you have found out so far. I am going to break in a 250 SHO with 25 Tempest Plus on 02 TR 21.
