Ranger didn’t make a 188 in 2004. It would have been a 185.

It just amazes me how people will do stuff like that and it not occur to them it is a bad idea.

Just be glad you had the sense to ask and now you can avoid that thing!

As with the above call Ranger or a reputable repair shop and and ask. I have a 492vs with similar boxes. I do not think that wall is structural to the set back transom. I still would have not cut it.

Please post back what they have to say.

Looks like those “walls” attach to the knee braces which appear to extend just past those rear flotation boxes. I’m not sure of their structural purpose if any. A call to Ranger should help.
