How many have cut the hard plastic sheathing off a Ultrex and replaced with a cover

Just curious how many have cut the hard sheathing that comes on an Ultrex and replaced it with a neoprene cover or something after market and was it to facilitate easier manuverability of the wires and so on or just cosmetic and adding wires for graphs and so on???

do you have a older or new ultrex? i had an older one that black plastic sleeve was very stiff and got it replaced with a newer that is a lot more flexible. I also use a DD26 cover also to go along with it but it made a huge difference.

I got one of those off amazon for less than $20. I didn’t take the old sheathing off. I just went over top of it and the transducer wires. It works fine and actually seems more manageable

    On both of mine.

    For both manageability and aestetics.

I left it on there and added a heavy duty (but flexible) wire sleeve. See link below:

Cut mine off and covered with neoprene. So much easier but mine is an older one (2019 I think)

I did the same thing. Makes stowing and deploying much smoother

If its older, its still covered under warranty from a Minn Kota dealer. Just had mine done with some other warranty work.

I went the Wire Care route also but changed over from the Velcro closer to zipper closer. So much easier going on and off then the Velcro. Also the material is thinner and more flexible then their Velcro version. 2" by 5' works 90 percent of the time I had to go with 2.5" by 5' as I have way to much stuff on my trolling motor (360, panoptics, external down and side imaging transducer, live Scan controller for my live) so I have a lot additional wires. Also I did cut the hard plastic OEM sleeve of the trolling motor wires as it was cracked and broken in bunch spots so it was not keeping water out anyways and just making the whole bundle stiffer.
