    Quality light camper

Thinking about getting a pull camper I can pull with my Honda Ridgeline, 5000 lbs max towing capacity. I am wanting a good quality camper that is built decently. Normally just me and the Mrs and occasionally maybe an additional couple young adult granddaughters. Just kicking around the idea at this point. Did camping earlier in life and we enjoyed it. Be retired soon so thinking we might again.

You said good quality camper so the only one I could think of that fits this is the Airstream Basecamp which will set you back $50,000+.

Look at the Jayco brand as they make a quality product. I have owned 7 different campers and toy haulers and the last one was a Jayco Eagle which was my favorite.

We are looking into campers, 5th wheels, but my son has done a bunch of research and has found Grand Design has the top quality. When we went the other week and were Tire Kicking, no doubt, Grand Design were heads above others in quality. More expensive, but you get what you pay for.

You don’t want to pull 5000 lbs with that truck. 3500 max or get a bigger truck. My last half ton was rated at 9800. Overheated on hot days towing 5000 and it was a new truck

I agree. Unibody and camper, no way. My F150 struggles with my 19 ft camper.

Look into the Winnebago Mini and Micro Mini towables.

I pull a 22’ Mini with my Nissan Frontier and have zero issues. Pulls like it’s not even there.

I would second the Jayco line, I think we have had 4 different Jayco units over the past 45 yrs and have always had great service from them. But my first thought when you limited yourself to 5000 lb. and said there could possibly be 4 people. You need a bigger truck, a 1/2 ton truck with a tow package will allow you to get into a camper that will do what you are describing. If it was just the two of you I might suggest something like the Teardrop campers. But I have no experience with them other than seeing them in campgrounds.

    Good luck on your hunt

One other thing is its not always what you can pull. You have to be able to stop it safely, weight and brake size of tow vehicle makes a difference.

I agree, thinking 4000 lbs or less max loaded. I should have mentioned that. I am not worried about the unibody as I have a very good friend with the same vehicle that been pulling a sunset park rv Sunlite 18RD - It weighs 2780 empty. CAT SCALE has it at 3800 pounds fully loaded. I am just wondering what’s out there in a high quality option.

Jayco Ultra Feather lite would fit your weight class. I just sold a M 221 weight was 3500 lbs.

Bought a Flagstaff E-Pro 19FD from Calvin's Country in Depew, OK in Dec '22. I've had several before this one, so I have some insight. It's total 20' long. All RV's are junk, this brand and it's sister brand Geo Pro by Rockwood seemed a bit above average. Dealer is great, family owned and they take care of follow-up issues. This is a major consideration when looking to buy. Dry weight around 3,300, max 4,300. But I would not want to pull this with max 5,000 lbs towing. Also check your payload max. It's as important as towing capacity.

Consider a used High Low. Make sure it is one that has the wood free construction. They are not for everyone, so be sure to do your research before jumping in. Their low profile will make it easier on your Honda.

Take a look at the Rockwood Geopro or the E pro in the 19fD, light and spacious for 2 people and a couple of pups. I pull mine with a Lexus GX 470.

I might would look at popups for the weight you can pull, ours weighed about 2500 lbs. If you camp a lot, not my first choice, but for occasional trips they work. We had a tandem axle Jayco with heat and air and it was roomy, comfortable and we had no structure issues. To help with heat in warm weather, you can put bubble insulation in the windows during the summer.

Keep in mind that the payload limitation is just as important as your tow capacity. (Tounge weight plus all passengers, cargo, fuel, etc.)
Saying that, we purchased a Grand Design 22MLE. I have had zero issues and we love the layout and quality!
