    Can someone explain prop slip

I own a 2009 stratos 285xl. Had a 23m prop on it that was stock, not in perfect condition but still works. Runs at 5700 rpm and about 52-54 mph. I just recently purchased a brand new tempest plus 23 p prop. I tried it out today and found that the boat was running weird. The tachometer would jump back and forth and I could only hit about 5200 rpm at best. The boat almost felt like it was missing at times. I know it’s strictly due to the new prop but what I was experiencing considered prop slip? I don’t have a jackplate either. Thanks in advance.

Your description sounds more like a bad hub.

ETA: You asked what prop slip was. It is how the movement of a prop in the water differed from what it would theoretically do and what it actually does.
If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity,
    nothing else matters.

I’m guessing engine problem. Can you put the original prop back on and try again?

The original works fine as holding rpms and speed, maybe not the speed I wanted but I'm just lost.
