    2nd prop advice

i probably inquired last fall about this,if so i apologize..anyway,i have a 22 ranger 518 with v8 200.the boat came with a 22 fury.it runs ok.it turns somewhere between 56 and 5700 rpm.the speed is some where between 64 and 67.i need to get a second prop anyway for a spare.so my question would be,could i try a 21 pitch fury or 22 tempest and expect similiar results?im thinking the 21 would give me more rpm,but i dont want to sacrifice speed due to less pitch.so im wondering if less pitch automatically equals less speed?or due to turning less pitch at higher rpm sorts equal it out?

If the motor makes more hp at higher rpms, It is possible to gain speed going down in pitch. This depends on the prop, height, and rev limiter.

If your 200 HP V8 is a PRO XS, I think the rated rpm ranged is 5600 - 6200 rpm, if that is correct you are at the lower end of the rpm range. If your turned the 22P at 5700 rpm, I think you will be close to 6000 rpm with the 21P and that should accelerate a lot faster. If the 22P ran 5700 in the cold weather, I agree to switch to a 21P. If you ran 5700 rpm in the summer heat you might run 5900 rpm in cold conditions but I doubt you would exceed 6200 rpm in the cold weather. As pointed out in the previous post, does the motor make more HP at 6000 rpm than 5700 rpm, and that I can't answer. Most of the larger HP V8's often run faster when propped near the top of the rpm range.

The 4.6 200 h.p. Pro XS V8 engines run best when propped to turn 6000-6200 rpms. According to Don at European Marine.

    That doesn't always mean faster.
