    Engine height question

I have not played with the manual jack plate at all since owning the boat. My buddy used my boat a few weeks ago ans said he thinks the engine is sitting too low. I get 6200 rpms like I should most timesat WOT however I get no rooster tail what so ever, I always had my engines throw a rooster no higher than the cowling at WOT and trimmed out. This boat will not throw a tail at all and top end speed isn't all that great and it just doesn't seem to get lift. So should I try to raise it 1/4" and see what it does?

Borrowed from BuzzB8 in the Stratos forum.

    From top to bottom.
    1. Leveling the boat using a level on the pad.
    2. Measuring the distance from the pad to a level concrete floor.
    3. Leveling the engine. (Use the trim button and move the engine, not the boat)
    4. Measuring the distance from the center of the prop shaft to the floor. Now just subtract the prop shaft measurement from the pad measurement. For my set-up, the prop is 2.75" below the pad.
    5. This picture shows that on my boat, I can still raise the engine .75" on the jackplate by removing the mounting bolts and raising the engine on the plate.

I have a 189TrX and am running about 2 7/8” below. I see a rooster almost as high as the cowl. Others I’ve messaged with here are running that or 2 3/4”. Curios what prop you’re running and what gear ratio you have, if you significantly raise your engine your WOT RPM might rise too.

I have the exact same boat with a hydraulic jack plate. I have never seen a rooster tail on this boat. I lose water pressure if I raise it too high, but no rooster tail. I have a bravo FS prop currently and have also tried tempest props.

Watch the water pressure especially in long, hard turns.

Is not having a rooster tail a bad thing?
Should you look to set up your setup to get a rooster tail?
I have a different boat but mine runs fine with zero rooster tail even with a hydraulic jackplate.

I am not so sure that is needed. I just know that I have always had a slight rooster tail on every other boat, never higher than the cowl
