    Trim Motor

my nephew just got a used boat with a Merc motor SN 0G014559 the trim wouldn't work . relays will come in but nothing so they bought a new trim motor. the old one had 3 wires but the new one only has the blue and green. Still wont run unless you take either blue or green wire off the relay and ground that wire and push the trim switch. then it will run in that direction. Seems like the motot isn't grounded,

You cannot use a two-wire trim motor on the wiring system for a 3-wire.

You'll need a trim harness and relays for a 2-wire system. Relatively simple to install, once that's done it should work fine.

Several ways it can be done using trim harness and relay blocks from a later-design engine model (along with the two relays).

You can hit the Parts Department up if you would like (email is best) and they'll be happy to set you up. You can also grab from a parting-out engine in many cases (as well).
