I had the 2002 version with 225 Optimax. I believe I ran a 27 Tempest with no plugs. It was a little slow out of the hole with a load, but was a rocket once hooked up. IMO, your 26 would be a better all-around choice. I would leave all plugs out on the 26 and learn to feather the throttle as the bow is breaking over. Then you can nail it. RE your plate, the standard from the factory at that time was a 6", with an 8" option considered to be the ideal. Your 12" may be a little much, but I've never run a hydraulic plate. It is a fun rig. Enjoy.

My 01 was slow out of the hole especially at higher altitudes

I have an 03 TR-20 and my best performance is with a 26 Tempest Plus with two holes plugged. I have an 8” jackplate. No problem with holeshot. A 25 Tempest Plus is even quicker getting on plane but not as fast at top end speed.

I run a worked 25 Tempest Plus and the hole shot is great. I do run out of prop at 70 mph though.

The jack plate is a 10 not a 12 and I put a 25 tempest on it ran 70 at 5500 rpm but hole shot wasn't the best. Could I send my prop of to get work done to have better hole shot.

70 is plenty fast enough for me.

Is this a 2.5 or 3.0 L? 2.5 not exactly renowned for hole shot.

It gets on plane fine with a 24pt trophy plus with 2 vent holes open other 2 with large plug.
