    Flippin jig

I've never got into flipping jigs in heavy cover. I.e. hydrilla. and such. I had a 1oz that I couldn't get thru the thick stuff. What is a good heavy cover jig to try?

by far the best one I've found is the D&M lures Mat Rat. Better than the Hack Attack, better than the Dirty Jigs. Don't be fooled by the double weed guard. The 1.25 and 1.5 oz can get through the nastiest stuff and more importantly get back out. Fish are hooked right in the roof of the mouth most of the time.

The 1 oz. I had was a medlock. Couldn't get it thru thick hydrilla in orange. Unless they expanded the 1 oz. Is the heaviest medlock makes.

Agreed, I tried a medlock, no Bueno. I like Grassmaster jigs.

Grassmaster, Nichols, DM are the only ones I've seen that go to 1.5oz

I guess you guys do know about Medlock. I flip reedheads with them when at Okeechobee. The double guard works good for me in wood a little farther north as well.

When Joe developed the double weed guard it was a game changer flipping reeds maiden cane, sparse submergient .wood. I just got a couple D&M 1.5 . I still think one has to target seams in thick mats but excited to see how they work.

Oh we know about them, Medlocks are great for anything but thick grass/hydrilla. If you want to flip grass there are several jigs superior to the Medlock. All of my lakes have thick grass so the Medlock doesn't see service.

Who says we don't ? Flipping a jig for me, seems to be way better when the bluegill are bedding, and I'm not punching mats with a jig.

Medlock jig is #1 in sparce cover and not designed for thick vegetation. If you want a jig profile and a bait that will get thru thick cover all you need to do is use your weight of choice to get thru , rubber skirt by Gambler baits, straight shank flipping hook, plastic creature Texas rigged and you have a perfect setup. Use it all the time with great results17977425-ED66-4AF2-B22C-DD4AEA96E0F1.jpeg
