I've never got into flipping jigs in heavy cover. I.e. hydrilla. and such. I had a 1oz that I couldn't get thru the thick stuff. What is a good heavy cover jig to try?

by far the best one I've found is the D&M lures Mat Rat. Better than the Hack Attack, better than the Dirty Jigs. Don't be fooled by the double weed guard. The 1.25 and 1.5 oz can get through the nastiest stuff and more importantly get back out. Fish are hooked right in the roof of the mouth most of the time.
Surprised you Florida guys don't know about Medlock jigs.
The 1 oz. I had was a medlock. Couldn't get it thru thick hydrilla in orange. Unless they expanded the 1 oz. Is the heaviest medlock makes.

Trashmaster jig.
Grassmaster, Nichols, DM are the only ones I've seen that go to 1.5oz

I guess you guys do know about Medlock. I flip reedheads with them when at Okeechobee. The double guard works good for me in wood a little farther north as well.

Medlock jig is #1 in sparce cover and not designed for thick vegetation. If you want a jig profile and a bait that will get thru thick cover all you need to do is use your weight of choice to get thru , rubber skirt by Gambler baits, straight shank flipping hook, plastic creature Texas rigged and you have a perfect setup. Use it all the time with great results17977425-ED66-4AF2-B22C-DD4AEA96E0F1.jpeg
