    Trailer Wiring Connector

I am getting a new Jeep Grand Cherokee which does not come with a hitch or wiring. A dealer installed factory hitch and harness cost $1700, so I am going to get an after market hitch installed. My present boat trailer has a flat 5 pin connector. What type of connector do most of the new boat trailers with surge brakes have?

My ‘08 trailer has a 5 flat and it has brakes. My truck only has a 4 flat and 7 round receptacle so I had to buy a 5 flat to 7 round adapter. Works fine for me.

You can get a 7pin round to 5 flat. Not sure what connectors the installer is using but basically the blue reverse wore connects to your reverse lights

Though the 5-pin is what most boats have and installing that on your vehicle is fine, the 7-pin is more common and maybe more readily available to install.
