    Finesse drop shot rod

I’m in the market for a new finesse spinning rod. I’m thinking 6-10 to 7-1.
Im thinking I can use it double duty for 1/4-3/8 oz drop shots , or 5/8 jigging Shad’s.
Will be paired with a 2500 or 3000 series reel and I plan on 10-12 lb braid.
Probably something medium or medium light , with a fast tip ?
    What are your suggestions ?

What is your budget. A bunch of choices, price will narrow it down.

I like a 6.5 foot rod for drop shotting, a medium action ST Croix premier is what I have used for a long time.

Expride B 7’ L is hard to beat for what you are describing. It’s more like a ML+, it has a little more power than the NRX+ DSR which I also own.

First reports I’ve seen on the Expride B are that they seem to be fishing one power heavier than the type A.
ML is rated to 1/2 oz. How is it going to do with the 5/8 oz jigging rap? Medium is rated to 5/8, but if the ML is fishing like the M will the ML handle the 5/8 like the M is supposed to?

842S. In the NRX,GLX, or IMX Pro

You will not be sorry if you spend the extra money. You get what you pay for. Tried and true actions that cover exactly what you are looking for

So what about the 3/8 oz top end on the 842s vs the 5/8 oz jigging rap ?

You may want to rethink what you're looking for. Finesse drop shot rod that will handle 5/8 oz. H'm, Steez Utility Player Spin or 843s but heavy on the lighter side.

You will be looking for a lifetime for a rod that can handle that range up to 5/8

The 852S will get you there but you will not have the tip for other more finesse presentations at the low end of your weight requirements

If you know of a rod builder, these are three blanks to consider: NFC X-ray SJ703 (7ft), NFC X-Ray SB722 (a hair more powerful, but 2” longer), or the NFC X-ray SB723 (same soft tip but more powerful butt section). NFC (North Fork Composites) also has rods (Edge Rods) so you can see if they have any rods built with these blanks. The only drawback is that it takes a long time to get something from them (their warranty is great, but also slow). Occasionally they surprise with a quick turnaround, but don’t plan for it.

If you got time, worth the wait - we’re talking equal to, if not better, than NRX quality (sensitivity & weight). I don’t like recoil guides, or the NRX spinning seat, as the reason I opted for custom (instead of just getting an NRX).

I've been using a Fenwick Elite Tech Bass spinning rod for about 6 weeks now and am very impressed with it. They are $170 and have a lifetime warranty. For your application, it looks like the 7' M would fit your needs.

    LWTS71MMF / 7'1" Jig-N-Rap / Medium / Moderate Fast .
    St Croix legend tournament walleye.
I’m thinking this one might work well also .

Used to chase walleye once in awhile and liberated one of my old 6'8" medium power Xfast action spinning rods and put a Stradic 2500 on it. Works great for drop shotting.

IMO, finesse drop shot falls in the 1/4oz lure limit.
