    Filling stripped out holes

I am re-doing my carpet and while doing so want to address a few screw holes for my rear hatch hinges that are stripped out. Normally I would use West Systems but don't have any right now. I do have some Marine Tex and Devcon 2 ton 30 minute epoxy. I have worked with both but never for something that will be drilled and screwed. Am I better off just getting more West System or will one of them be fine.

easy fix, put a couple of tooth picks in the screw hole as far as you can, then break them off flush, then screw in the screw

the toothpicks will fill the void and you can get the screw tight

Seriously.... that is what you would do for several stripped out screw holes on hinges that you have to remove anyway to do other repairs?

If you are not in a big hurry, get some more West Systems. Probably have it tomorrow if you order on Amazon. JB Weld will work. Any 2 part epoxy will also. Pilot drill to correct size. Make sure you know the screw size and look up pilot hole size chart on the internet.

    Use the Marine Tex.

It is an epoxy resin and is a permanent fix that can be drilled and tapped.

You could also try using a screw one size bigger to see if it will tighten in the same hole.

Marine Tex or JB weld is fine if you want to re-drill. If it’s only a few of the holes you could use a larger screws and secure it with 3M 4200 semi permanent if needed.
