    Brand new compressor issue

    Sn#1b882400

just replaced my air compressor. I’ve had the boat out twice. I took the cowling off today just to check on everything and noticed my air intake fitting threads had stripped and the fitting actually pulled out with the plastic flywheel cover. Has anyone else ran into this?

From the looks in the picture it's been cross threaded. Did you do the install? You may be able to clean the threads up and replace the nipple.

Yes I did the install. But that price comes already threaded in.

I read a post about this issue last week and other people wrote in saying their new compressors had this fitting falling out and stripped. They said Merc replaced the new compressors under warranty.

Cross threaded or the threads didn't match to begin with.

Keep that intake port clean!!! Don't jam a tap in there.

Had the same thing on my new compressor that was installed summer of 2021. I ended up pulling my rails and injectors and sending them to Don after seeing the brass flakes.

Kyjake, I don't think I'm allowed to mention the other forum. PM me. WHAT WAS THE P/N and origin of mfg. of the compressor you bought?

Don, I bought a new compressor off you this winter that I haven't opened but do want to install. It's p/n 8m0060052, mfg date 10/27/22, and made in the usa. Any advise?

Check the fitting when installing a new compressor and make sure that it had been tightened.

I have seen a couple where the fitting did not get tightened properly and became
loose, resulting in brass and aluminum metal
filings that can potentially end up in the fuel
    system.

Likely covered under Parts and Accessories Warranty with proof of purchase as a retail consumer within less
    than 1 year.

Thanks Don. I’m hoping that they cover it and I’ll for sure make sure the next one is tight.
