    SteadyCast heading sensor

Anyone use one with their Garmin setup? I have the Point1 for my Lowrance units and it is a big advantage when trolling to a waypoint.

I do and think it is necessary if using the map system. While the map will orient the course up while moving forward. If your trying to fish a spot while on spot lock or drifting, the map will be all over the place. With SC map aligns with where the boat is pointed or headed!

    I also use the SC.....

The good thing, you can use your Point 1 for your Garmin units, if you have any. Garmin now has the GPS24XD which is the same as Point1 with the built in heading sensor.

That's fantastic. I have Lowrance and Garmin, had no idea I could use my Point1 for the Garmin units as well. Thanks for the info.

It will even show up as Point-1 in the device listing on your Garmin.

Does the Steady Cast plug into the Garmin units? Specifically the 106 Ultras?

Yes. It connects through the NMEA channel.

Some point-1 units don't have a magnetic heading sensor.

How is that? Never heard of a Point 1 not having it.

Yah... some don't. Lowrance made some units for Evinrude. They are labeled Point-1 and even have the directional arrow and look identical to other Point-1 antennas. But they do not have a magnetic sensor. They give GPS info only. I purchased one from Evinrude when I bought my G2. It interfaces with my digital gauges and MFD and I can see it in my devices on my Garmin units as well. But it doesn't give a heading. It will give course over ground or a heading while moving. I have to use my Steadycast to show what direction my bow is pointed while fishing.

It took me awhile to figure it out but I eventually confirmed it. The Evinrude branded Point-1 doesn't have a mag. There may be others like that, too. I don't know.
