Is anyone with an older SHO running lithium for cranking? If so have you had any issues? Yamaha still hasn't approved it after talking with them the other day.

Not sure if I should answer this question but I will. I have a '14 250 SHO, I have a Relion Rb100 hp and have had zero issues with so ever!!

From being here a while, with interest in this subject, I have noted that many Yamaha owners, of various model types, are successfully using lithium batteries to start their motors.
I Personally Ran the IONIC 125ah on 2016 SHO and NOW on 2022 and it works flawlessly
in the past the 2009 to 2011 had some issue with a ground that affected lithium's back before the cranking batteries were perfected
Yam911 may know more about the ground thing on the 2009-2011

we have a ton of cutomers running our Powerhouse 105 ah cranker on the SHOs with zero issues. It's also the only lithium cranker with the emergency start button built right in and one of the few that meeets Mercs high standards to be approved for lithium cranking. Using the Ionic 125 on my 2016 SHO 225 (actually a 2015 motor I think - 2016 Skeeter Hull). Only been running it a few months, but no issues whatsoever. In addition to cranking I run 4 Live 12's, AT, 3DSS, Pole Mount, PP's, a couple GoPros, run livewells all day and all normal boat electronics etc and never dropped below 70%.

Have a ‘17 SHO 250 and have been running an Ionic 125 for a year and a half now without any issues
its a consensus all the folks selling lithium batteries say its good to go. who would have ever thought.
The sellers are outnumbered by the users that are saying it is good to go.
One can be a leader or one can be a follower.
I never took Yamaha's advice that a lithium battery is not approved by Yamaha as the same as Yamaha saying don't do it, something bad will happen. Don't think Yamaha is in a position to really say one way or the other. So they take the easy way out. As well they should.
It was interesting Mercury saying don't use a lithium battery until one day their parent company owned a lithium battery supplier. Suddenly and miraculously it was all right.
Who would have ever thought.
I run the 125 ionic on a 2020 200 sho with no issues
