Where and how are you mounting your phone for VesselView purposes?

I知 probably going to set up one of my older iPhones (iPhone v11 I think) somewhere on my console/dash so I can easily view the VesselView app when I知 running my motor. I知 sure many of you have already done the same-got any good recommendations as to where and how I should mount the iPhone on a late model Ranger z boat?

I used the Ram X Grip Phone Mount with the drill down base. I mounted it on the left lower side of the dash. On my Z185 Ranger. Hold my I phone 6 good and I'm able to watch the RPMs while running down the lake.

I use a RAM X-Grip with a suction cup mount. I either mount it by my right knee under the console or on my left to the front of the center console.

I have heavy duty velcro on the middle of the steering wheel. I use an old iPhone 6 that has no service, but works great for connecting to VVM....

Thx guys. Best spot I’ve found so far is to use a ram mount and mount it on the side of the footwell area just aft of the ignition key and control panel. I could also try the Velcro thing higher up on the dash but I’m a little concerned about it falling off in crazy waves, and overheating while sitting in the hot sun for hours. The lower mounting position will offer a little shade for the device. Using a ram mount will also allow me to hang a hat on it to protect it from the sun. So, that’s the direction I’m leaning.

Yeah the heat thing is a concern. My phone does shut down in the heat, so if you find a way to protect it, that is best. Fair warning, the app will chew your phone battery in no time if you forget to turn it off when not using it.

Sure does...that's why I plug my phone into USB when running VVM.

I have one of those suction cup mounts and stick it to the side of my console. Works great.

same here. First time out I didn’t bother to bring a charging cord, and I was shocked to see my phone in low power mode and almost out of juice after a half day of fishing! Really does sap your battery.

got a picture you can post? Also, can you tell me the brand/model of suction cup mount you have? I’m assuming you have it attached to the fiberglass, correct? Does it ever detach in heavy waves?

Yeah, I now have a charger cable in my Noco GBX155 case and another in my glove box. The first time out with it, I didn't have anything and couldn't believe my phone was crapped out after a few hours....

Yes, I attach it to the fiberglass. I have a nice flat spot on the side of the console. I purchased it many years ago and it just sat on a shelf. I threw they box out so I have no idea of the manufacturer but there are many out there. Haven't been in any real heavy stuff yet.

Has anyone tried one of the Weathertech cup holder mounts? There is a cup holder on the right side of my drivers seat on my Triton, which also appears to be common on other boats. Probably not as convenient as mounting it higher up but I would think it would be good enough for a quick glance with the VVM running. I'm not sure if the cup holder sleeves that come with the Weathertech would fit but if it doesn't Amazon returns are easy enough. The plus is I could also use it my truck and no holes drilled.

@mflora98ss - what type of base does yours have? Screw in; adhesive?

@jtrac that’s not a bad idea. I’ve just been using my cup holder so far and the weathertech cup holder phone holder would actually bring it up about 6”.

Here's what I wound up doing. Seems to be fairly sturdy and the expanding cleats for the cup mount are tight. I won't recommend it until I've used it a few times but for $23 from Amazon it's worth a shot. I probably won't leave my phone in it when the water gets rough but I'm not looking at my phone then anyway. That's a reflection from my garage ceiling on the holder in case anyone wonders what that is. If it doesn't work I'll use it in my truck.
