An electrical short some where, get out the manual and the meter and start troubleshooting.

Could it of possibly been caused by somebody crossing cables on battery?

Well that’s what I found wrong with it just looking the motor over I was asking because it’s going to the shop Saturday.

Starters don't care if the cables are reversed, but diodes, like in rectifiers and voltage regulators do. They feel it as a direct short, and something has to give. I have a 175 Ficht with a ventilated block under my work bench.

Have most of the engine harness

I am on the hunt for another 150 or 140 maybe after all the stories I hear about these motors I don’t know.
