My power trim pump died and need manually lift the motor to accesses the trim pump. This is accomplished by releasing the manual trim/tilt release “pin/valve.” Pin will not rotate.
I found a wide piece of stainless which I ground to the exact thickness and width to fit in the slot in the plastic pin/valve to apply as much torque to turn out the pin/valve. I can feel the head of the plastic pin starting to go with the pin stuck. I tried some penetrating oil with no luck.
Another Merc forum said that the pros will torch heat a flat blade screw driver such that the hot driver melts the plastic of the pin so one can insert the hot screw driver within the body of the pin/valve. I wonder if there are any other ideas on this issue. Im hesitant to try the hot screw driver technique as if it doesn’t work I have a real hodge podge to deal with or hand off the hodge podge to a real mechanic.
Another idea I am considering is once the threaded part of the plastic valve/pin is removed (chipped away) a healthy 1" wood screw could be threaded into the center of plastic valve/pin. The wood screw has a head on it obviously and the plastic valve/pin could be pulled out the way a nail is pulled out of a piece of wood.
