Four blade versus three blade prop

Any of you guys have experience runny
a 4- blade prop on an older Ranger 300 series?
im looking to try a four blade on my Ranger 300
    series
with. Mercury classic 150. I’m interested
In hole shot, turning control and top end.
    I’m currently running a 3 blade Laser 2, 21 Pitch.
    turning 5200 RPM @ 41 MPH.
I think I would need a 19 pitch 4- blade but looking for help
    with make and model.
    Thanks

I’m not super familiar with the specifics on that motor but 5200RPM’s at WOT seems really low for a two stroke. Just from the basics a 4 blade should improve the hole shot, lift, and mid range, along with making it easier to handle…it may not get you the most top speed but if you can get the RPM’s up there’s likely more speed on the table especially if you’re lifting that heavy hull out of the water more.

    ^^^^^ I agree

Mercury Fury 4 and Mercury Racing Bravo 1 are likely your best bets

BTW..I wouldn’t rule out Mark’s Propeller and his Razor XL….great service, board sponsor, and extremely knowledgeable. I couldn’t be happier with my prop from him.

    I've got an 87 374V with a Merc 150 XR4 mounted on a 4" jackplate, running a 24P / 4 Blade / Trophy Plus

I owned a 350 with a merc XR2 150 back in the 80’s. I ended up liking the Mercury High 5 prop the best.

    A 150 running only 5200@41mph, I would think something's wrong. Unless it's a 390 series.

Yep. My 1991 361-V ran low 60's with a 150 w/ 6" manual jack plate. That said, I ended up running four-blade wheels on all of my Rangers since 1990 as the overall performance, such as throttle response, rough water handling and ability to hang on plane at a lower RPM were much improved over a three-blade.

    I ran a 4 on my 462 with a 150efi. It performed better than the 3.

If the engine is healthy, I agree you need to raise the WOT rpm. Even a 19P Laser II would help the holeshot. I don't think they make the Fury or Bravo props as low as 21P but I think you need even less pitch. They might make a Bravo FS in 20P, if they do that might be an option. They do make the Trophy Plus down to 17P and it might be worth a try at 19P on your boat?

How many PVS hole do you cover on the 4 blade Fury when going from a 3 blade Fury?

I run a 19P High Five on a Ranger 365V with a 175HP Merc. It’s got a much better’s hole shot with very little bow lift. It turns like it’s on a rail with zero cavitation. I probably give up a MPH or two over a high quality stainless 3 blade, but it smokes the standard aluminum prop the boat came with.
