    Chickahominy

My son has a tournament on chickahominy 3/19. We are coming up on 3/16 and plan to get some practice on the 17th and 18th. Last year he didn't do well, we spent a lot of time in diascund creek. This is his last high school regular tournament and i'd like for them to get at least a limit. If anyone has any recommendations or suggestions i'd be glad to give some information on buggs island. Under route 5 toward james is typically off limits for them. You can respond here or PM me. Thanks

I would go up towards the dam and sit there all day if allowed by the tourney rules. If not, I would throw a chatterbait and ratl trap through the emerging pad fields in the first three bends down from the down. Hit deeper cypress too.

This is a solid plan. Add in some flipping docks and you have a receipt for success. Expect lots of company.

Is his boat captain willing/able to run the length of the Chick?

johnw91 thanks for the information. I'm not sure tourney rules as far as fishing that area. I thought I saw another thread talking about having to be 100' or more away? Not sure on this.

BigFishSteve. Yes his captain will run it. They leave from the river front park at rt 5. Just trying to figure out the best area to focus on. I've been told to fish duck blinds as well, is there a certain area on the river that has more like main channel or some of the creeks. I'm not that familiar with it.

Duck blinds are everywhere on the river. This time of year I would focus more on fan casting flats and the first deeper cypress near them. Duck blinds always play, but I like them more later in the spring personally.

Flats on downriver side of entrance to main river creeks are staging areas.

Thanks for all the information. Where is the best place to look about the tide on the river?

High tide at mid-Chick (shipyard) is 12:50 by my app. Not sure if it is set to Daylight savings or not.
