    What is this cable for?

Does someone know what the pictured cable is for? It is on the bottom, port side of the swivel bracket on a new to me 2011 175 Pro XS Opti.

    Thanks in advance.

You should see another broken ring terminal very close to the end of that wire.
It is under a large nut. Just move that wire to where it reaches and you can't miss it.
I can pm you a picture of mine if you can't find it.

Also, if the op doesn't reconnect it soon, would it only be an issue if he were to leave the boat in the water for an extended time like at a dock?
Or should this be repaired quickly?

It should be Mercury part # 88238A70.
It is called Mercury cable assembly.
I just crimped on a new ring terminal as mine was broken right at the nut.

Be careful with motor mate type supports when installing as often are the cause of this wire being damaged
    Thank You Leon Pugh
