    Someplace to Stay in Memphis?

A buddy and I are leaving from Milwaukee to go to southwest Louisiana next Sunday. Memphis would be a nice half waypoint but with all the crazy stuff (if you can believe it) I have been hearing about makes me hesitant to stay there.

Does the collective have any suggestions for a place to spend the night along the interstate on the west side? I was stationed in Millington back in the day so I know to avoid West Memphis.

Are you hitting I-40 west at Memphis or taking I-55 to Jackson then west on I-20?

Memphis isn't really a nice anything...

Take Jeff's advice and roll on through to Southhaven.

Personally, I'd probably stay somewhere between Cape Girardeau and Blytheville, and avoid the St. Louis and Memphis areas altogether.

The Hampton inn in Hernando MS just off of I55. It’s 10 mins south of Southaven. I lived in Southaven and moved a few years ago…it’s going to crap also like Memphis. It’s still more safe then Memphis but it’s going down hill and the traffic at Airways and Goodman where the good hotels are located is insane.

I’m not exactly sure what route we’ll be taking and won’t know until we get in the truck Sunday. My buddy is kind of a travel Nazi and non planner

I’m just trying to get ideas in case he wants to go through Memphis.

Thanks for the replies and info. Good stuff thanks

Avoid all of Memphis if you can. I'd eye south side of Southhaven or Tunica if you can make it.

Marion, AR. I've stayed at the Hampton Inn a few times there and it's fine, it's right off of I-55. I used to live there too.

Well since I am in Memphis everyday for work and pleasure, I will suggest staying at the Bass Pro Pyramid or at The Peabody. You also have Southland Greyhound and Casino in West Memphis you could stay at and gamble and not be to far off the interstate like you would be in Tunica, unless you cross back over into Helena Arkansas a bit down the road.

Oh and its only one "H" in Southaven, MS lol

Avoid stopping for anything in Memphis. Pretty sure it's worse than Little Rock even and that's hard to imagine.

I’ve stayed at the Crowne Plaza in downtown dozens of times with no issues. Walked all over the area during daytime. Enjoyed it.

I go there only when it is unavoidable. Doctor or something. I have stayed at the Peabody and other places but never felt safe. We had our truck broken into while eating at Outback. In 30 minutes they cleaned it out.

Safest place to stay in Memphis at night is the jail. At least you have guards.
