    Hover Shot Hook Size

What hook type/size are you all using for the hover shot with 3-4” baits? 1/0? #1?

You mean Cover shot? If that’s what you’re talking about I use a #1 regardless of whether I’m using a 4in or 6in Roboworm. I only bump up to a 1/0 if I’m using a girthier worm.

Hover shot is used with 90 degree hook like a jig hook usually size 1

The hook is inserted through the top of the bait with a nail weight through the nose/bottom of the bait
Usually some form if baitfish lure like a max scent flatworm

    The perfect bait for FFS

Heard it referred to as hover strolling. I tried a few sizes of hooks, #2-#4. Played with different weight types. Get it right and it's sick looking in the water. Takes a lot of experimenting to get it right. Super glue gel to help hold the piece of nail weight in is helpful. There's a few hook makers that make a hook with a keeper built on it.

It's a "Hover Juggle" using the 6th Sense Juggle Minnow, a size 1 jig hook and a nail or nose weight.

I tried the size #1 and had a little trouble keeping fish pinned.. Went up to the 1/0 and solved the problem.. I buy the Owner 5313 in bulk and tie my own keepers.

This is it. The hook eye sets down flush against the top of the bait. This is using a boot tail minnow, not the Juggle Minnow

I suggest checking out www.coretackle.com. I was watching a video by Matt Stefan yesterday where he and Jonny Schultz created a hover shot or hover strolling hook that has the weight on the hook. According to the video, it helps alleviate the two biggest issues which are baits getting ripped up quickly and losing nail weights. No idea how accurate this is since I've never tried the technique before, but in my mind their design makes sense.

I watched that video last night too. That thing looks great on the drop. Now I just need a crowbar to get my wallet open!

I ordered some of them after this thread got me searching around for more info on the technique and I came across Stefan's videos about it. He's always posting new stuff and is really great at explaining stuff, a great "subscribe" for those who haven't already!

They're not cheap, but nail weights aren't cheap either. I have also found myself wondering how inserting a nail weight next to a hook will mess with hookups. This seems like it solves the issue of lost nail weights, and would remove any interference from a separate nail weight next to a hook.
